Own Your Pace
For as long as I remember, I don't have New Year's resolutions. Maybe because I don't believe in them, or maybe because I failed to follow through on them in the past. Regardless, I have stopped having New Year's resolutions. Instead, regardless of the moment of the year, I decide on the things I want to do and I try to become consistent at those things. Consistency is key here. Why? Because following them religiously will most certainly guarantee me not achieving them completely, so I try to be consistent. I may miss one or two or three times a set of actions I was supposed to do, but I will not let that stop me from continuing. So, consistency is the key here.
The other thing is, I generally have long-term life goals that I write down physically somewhere on a paper and forget about those. Interestingly, when I go back to reading them, it is as if my subconscious was working with them and materializing them. So, I find out that I would have ticked most of the boxes.
The greatest of all goals in my opinion is to try and become a better person. That could mean different things to different people, but to me, it would essentially mean:
- Being kind and helping others
- Finding peace in myself and others
- Not doing things that make me hate myself
- Being truthful
It's hard to be ambitious. And it's even harder in this era where your ambition may seem small no matter how big it is. As a consequence, you make the dangerous mistake of changing the goalpost of having bigger and maybe unattainable ambitions, not because they are not achievable, but because you will simply not be able to achieve them in your lifetime if you hadn't achieved the previous one you set. So, you keep chasing the future without foundation.
